The battle for the Bute Heavy Events Championship was just one of the attractions at Bute Highland Games on Saturday, August 23, 2014.

Thousands of people descended on the public park in Rothesay on Saturday for the biggest day in the island’s events calendar - the Bute Highland Games.

Athletics, Highland dancing, pipe band contests, heavy events, wrestling, junior shinty and more ensured there was plenty of entertainment for everyone - with only a couple of brief showers interrupting the mostly sunny weather.

A successful day ended in memorably traditional fashion as the Games’ participating pipe bands marched from the park down High Street to the centre of Rothesay, with spectators lining the pavements to cheer them on.

We’ll have a compilation of video clips on this site on Sunday - and full photo coverage, with all the Games results, in the next issue of The Buteman, on sale from Thursday, August 28.
