The chieftain of this Saturday’s Bute Highland Games says he considers it a “huge honour” to have been asked to take on the ceremonial role.
Lifelong Rothesay resident Lyn Bulloch, who will retire this year as a depute lieutenant for the county of Argyll and Bute, will officially open the event at 12 noon on Saturday, and he and his wife Marjorie will also take the salute of the 19 pipe bands at the end of the day.
“I know the Games committee was keen to have someone local as this year’s chieftain, because of the Year of Homecoming,” Lyn said, “and I’m delighted that they’ve chosen me.
“I wouldn’t want to say I’m looking forward to one part of the Games more than any other. It would be unfair to single out the pipe bands more than the athletes more than the dancers – it’ll all add up to a lovely day.”
