Shinty: MacDonald strikes twice in Bute friendly win
IAIN MACDONALD hit a rare double as Bute’s first team began their pre-season preparations with a hard-earned friendly win at Ardnahoe farm on Saturday.
New manager Graham Fisher also saw John McCallum and Tom McMillan find the net as a new-look Bute side showed plenty of encouraging signs ahead of their first game in South Division One on March 9.
McCallum narrowly missed the target in the first few moments of the game as Bute made a positive start, but he made amends midway through the half - and MacDonald’s first on 33 minutes gave the hosts a commanding lead.
But Kilmory were in no mood to be cannon fodder, and David McAlister reduced the deficit five minutes later before David McFadyen’s deflected shot levelled matters midway through the second half.
Bute, however, kept their cool, and regained the lead through a Tom McMillan strike before MacDonald’s second put the result beyond doubt - capping a good run out for the team ahead of their opening league game on March 9.
