Scotland’s local government minister says this September’s independence referendum presents a chance to help island communities such as Bute develop solutions to their own individual problems.

Mr Mackay spoke to The Buteman after holding talks in Rothesay on Tuesday with members of an Argyll and Bute Council working group on island issues.

“We’re negotiating and debating how we can take advantage of this constitutional opportunity of the referendum to build a prospectus for Scotland’s islands,” Mr Mackay said.
