Plans for new changing facilities for Bute sports clubs

Major improvements in the changing facilities available to Bute’s sports clubs are being investigated by Rothesay’s community sports hub.

The Big Lottery Fund’s ‘Investing in Ideas’ initiative is to be asked for £10,000 to support a feasibility study looking at an expansion of the facilities currently available at Bute Shinty Club at the Meadows.

The move comes after concerns were raised over the cost, maintenance and commitment which would be needed for a separate newly-built facility at the nearby King George V playing fields, as reported in The Buteman in November.

Jillian Gibson, Argyll and Bute’s community sports hub officer, told a meeting of the Rothesay hub this week: “Bute Shinty Club has said we can look at redeveloping and extending the existing facilities and possibly demolishing the old pavilion at the Meadows.

“The shinty club has agreed to apply to the Investing in Ideas fund for a feasibility study to assess the likely number of users, the space requirements, the costs involved, possible funding sources, the governance and management implications and the possible timescale.”
