Caravans abandoned in Rothesay car park?

Concerns have been raised this week that a car park near Rothesay town centre is being used as a dumping ground for old caravans.

Four caravans in varying states of repair currently occupy part of the free Argyll and Bute Council car park near the former West Church in Argyle Street - in defiance of a notice at one entrance which states that caravans are not permitted.

Bute Community Council chair Grace Strong asked at the organisation’s July meeting this week whether anything could be done about the apparently abandoned trailers.

BCC treasurer Ian Hopkins added: “The council has put notices on boats left in car parks in Oban saying that if they’re not removed, the council will remove them - if it can happen in Oban, why can’t it happen here?”

Inspector Gordon Anderson, Police Scotland’s senior officer on Bute, said he would write to the council about the matter; local Argyll and Bute councillor Len Scoullar agreed to look into what the authority might be able to do.
