Olivia and Sophie Whitelaw had great success at the recent Largs Show, returning home with several accolades.

Bute’s young horse riders continued their winning ways at the Largs Show on Saturday, June 14.

In their first show together, Sophie Whitelaw riding Calon won the Mountain and Moorland Championship.

Top prize in the show, however, went to 7 year old Olivia Whitelaw riding Nel.

In only their second show together, Olivia and Nel won Champion Ridden Pony, and just to complete a superb day’s showing, took home the Kelburn Shield for the show’s Supreme Horse Champion.

Also competing on the day from Rothesay was Rhona Donald and her horse, Country Showtime. This was the first time they had competed off the island in an event with classes specifically for coloured horses. In glorious sunshine, they were delighted to win first place and a trophy, two second places and Reserve Champion in hand. A well-deserved result for both horse and rider.

A third Bute prize-winner at the event was Yvonne Crawford from Stuck farm near Port Bannatyne, who won the champion Highland pony prize with her five-year-old mare, Glenmuir Jura.

Well done to all!
