A Rothesay man has added his voice to calls for the NHS to install a satellite kidney dialysis facility on the island.

Joe Johnstone has had to travel from Bute to Greenock three days a week for the gruelling treatment since October 2014.

“There are four of us on Bute receiving dialysis at Inverclyde at the moment,” Joe said, “and another two are going to be joining us soon.

“The transport is a nightmare, and I’m the youngest in the group. One of us is 80 this year, and another is in their 70s. If it’s a nightmare for me, it can only be worse for them.”
