The Scottish Courts Service is changing the way it deals with Bute business at Greenock Sheriff Court - and police are keeping a close eye on the situation to see how the change will affect them.

Since the SCS closed Rothesay Sheriff Court in November, Bute cases have been heard on one day a week in Greenock - but Police Scotland’s senior officer in Bute and Cowal, Chief Inspector Gary Stitt, told Bute Community Council this week that was no longer the case.

“Cases are now beginning to be mixed in with the rest of the Greenock business througout the week,” he said.

“That may have a bigger impact on police resources, but we will continually monitor the situation.”
