Bute’s beach ranger Sandra MacMillan has been named as the Clean Up Scotland campaign’s ‘hero of the month’ for August.

Sandra, who works for local charity Beachwatch Bute, was nominated by John MacLennan, one of the two Keep Scotland Beautiful judges who visited the island last month to cast an eye over Bute in Bloom’s entry in the annual Beautiful Scotland competition.

“Marine litter is a huge problem,” Sandra said, “and the more people who get involved the better we can tackle it.

“I am very proud to be able to do this job and grateful that our charity is so well supported locally.”

Sandra received her award from Bute councillor and Argyll and Bute Provost Len Scoullar.

Beachwatch Bute was set up in 1998 to monitor the condition of the island’s beaches, and is the longest-established charity of its kind in Scotland.
