Bute Community Council to oppose wind farm plan

Bute Community Council has added its voice to those opposed to plans for three wind turbines at Ascog Farm on the island.

BCC members voted 8-3 on Wednesday night to submit an official objection to the planning authority, Argyll and Bute Council.

The vote came after BCC, and around 50 members of the public, heard a presentation on the proposal from the developer, Adrian Tear, and objections from Ascog residents Tony Harrison and Jean Moffat.

Mr Tear is seeking planning permission for three turbines, each 74 metres in height from ground to blade tip and with a combined output of 2.7 megawatts, on Ascog Hill.

Several community councillors present at Wednesday’s meeting at Rothesay Pavilion said their main concern over the proposal was the height of the turbines - which, for comparison, would be more than three times as high as the turbines erected earlier this year at Ardbeg Farm, to the north of Rothesay Bay.

As this article was published, 278 members of the public had commented on the plans via Argyll and Bute Council’s website - click on the link to the right of this article, and then on ‘View associated documents’ to read the public comments which have been published so far.

* More from Wednesday night’s meeting to follow.
