Bute’s 2013 community pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, produced jointly by by Bute Amateur Players and Achievement Bute, played to two packed houses at Rothesay Pavilion on Friday and Saturday.
The show, combining all the traditional pantomime favourites with more than a few Bute-specific gags, featured plenty of laughter, singing and dancing - and won lots of applause from its two audiences.
Star performers included the lead couple, Claire MacMillan as Prince Nicholas and Lauren Knowles as Princess Aurora, John McGinnes as Nellie Duff the panto dame and Gary Haworth as the Lord Chamberlain, Andrew Horn and Layla Templeton as King Shuggie and a very Bucket-esque Queen Hyacinth, Robbie Malcolm and Milo Alcorn as footmen Eck and Dec, Mhairi McArthur as Titania, Queen of the Fairies, and Irene McGregor as the wicked witch, Fairy Nettle.
They were ably supported by a talented troupe of fairies, elves and townspeople, and every member of the cast and crew thoroughly deserved the ovation at the end of each night’s show.
* More pantomime pictures in the next issue of The Buteman - out on sale on Thursday, December 26.
