The final instalment in our mini-series looking forward to some of the artists set to play on Bute in 2015 with Transclyde Music features Illinois singer and storyteller Ben Bedford.
Making a welcome return to the island following his debut performance in April 2013, Bedford specialises in intriguing sketches of America, focussing on its individuals, their victories and their struggles.
His songs tackle a variety of scenarios including homelessness, the plight of a Confederate soldier’s wife during the American Civil War, the aerial triumphs of Amelia Earhart, the life of Jack London, the murder of Emmett Till in 1955, John the Baptist, the poet Vachel Lindsay and even the 1973 standoff between members of The American Indian Movement and federal agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
With three albums to his name in an eight-year career, Bedford is spending 2014 and 2015 touring in support of his most recent release, What We Lost, and working
on material for his next record, as well as touring with fellow singer songwriter, Tim Grimm and violinist Diederik Van Wassenaer as the trio The Tall Trees.
Bedford’s solo gig in Rothesay takes place at St Paul’s Church Hall on Friday, May 1 - watch this site for more details closer to the time.
