The amazing Blue Swamp Band returned to the Craigmore Bowling Club last Saturday for the Transclyde Music Christmas gig.
Despite the weather, pantos, work Christmas parties and a few seasonal ailments there was a really good turnout and it was pleasing to see some new faces in the audience who will hopefully become regular attendees at future gigs.
The Blue Swamp Band has a unique style, essentially a Blues/Rock band but incorporating a lot of humour, classy musicianship with some great guitar interpretations from Johnny “Guitar” Williamson (ex-Animals) and superb solid backup from Big Vern on drums and Jim Moseley on bass.
The gravelly vocals from Mike Bowden are powerful and enhance the overall feel which all goes to make up the sound that is Blue Swamp.
Most of the songs are self-composed but there were also some interesting covers like Grapevine and Built for Comfort (which Mike Bowden claims was written for him).
This was a most enjoyable evening and marks the end of a good year of performances presented by Transclyde Music.
