Rothesay Pavilion was packed with young Highland dancers on Saturday, all hoping to impress the adjudicators at this year’s Bute Highland Dance Festival.
Schools from as far as Sanquhar and Oban were represented, with hopeful parents and supporters watching on as the youngsters took to the floor.
As in previous years the pressure of competing was eased with some light-hearted dancing in the form of a few rounds of ‘Dashing White Sergeant’ and ‘Gay Gordons’, in addition to the ever-popular mass Highland Fling. The latter dance raised £437 for a former dancer of the Anne McIlroy School of Dance, Megan Poole, who will be travelling to Malawi with her Dunoon-based dental practice. Megan would like to thank all her family and friends who helped with her stall at the festival, and to those who donated money to take part in the mass Highland Fling.
