The team from the Beechgrove Garden TV series is to film an entire episode on Bute later this year.
The programme’s makers have accepted an invitation from the Rothesay Horticultural Society to come to the island in August - and presenter Jim McColl has agreed to open the society’s annual show at the end of their visit.
The BBC show’s presenters - Jim McColl, Carole Baxter, George Anderson and Chris Beardshaw - will also hold a Gardener’s Question Time event as part of their visit to Bute.
Margaret Williams from Rothesay Horticultural Society said: “The society committee approached the Beechgrove Garden TV programme to see if Jim McColl or any of its presenters would open our 2015 flower show and present the prizes in August.
“After various conversations I have had from them, they have now confirmed the following.
“They will be coming to Rothesay to do a Beechgrove Roadshow with the Horticultural Society. As a result of the success of the collaboration between Beechgrove and the Gardners Question time team they have decided to take their four knowledgable Beechgrove presenters on two roadshows this year - a Gardners Question Time event for TV.
“A whole Beechgrove programme will be made from Rothesay and based around a main question and answer session to which Rothesay Hortucultural Society members are invited.
“The venue of this will be confirmed nearer the time but will be in Rothesay. This event will be held on Thursday, August 27 at approximately 6.30pm. The whole event will be filmed for the programme.
“On Friday the presenters will be visiting some local gardeners and looking at their gardens. They would also like to visit the garden of someone who poses a question at the Thursday evening event. Again, this will all be filmed for the TV show.
“The Flower Show will take place on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30, and Jim McColl will be opening the show and presenting the prizes.
“The filmed Thursday event is free but due to a limited number of tickets (150) will only be available to Rothesay Horticultural Society members.”
Any RHS member who would like their name put on the list for tickets can contact Margaret on (01700) 505404 after Sunday, March 8. Tickets will be on a first-come, first-served basis after this date.
If, nearer the time, any other tickets are available, they will be made available to the public.
Long before the Beechgrove team’s visit, RHS is also running a bus trip to the Garden Scotland show at Ingliston on Saturday, May 30. Please also contact Margaret if you would like tickets for this trip.
