Bute’s film fans turned out in force on Friday night as the Disney/Pixar smash hit Brave received its UK premiere at cinemas across Scotland.
The film, which tells the story of the impetuous Princess Merida and her efforts to set right a reckless decision that unleashes unintended peril on those around her, has been accompanied by a major worldwide marketing campaign by VisitScotland.
And since VisitScotland both owns and operates the Discovery Theatre, Bute’s only cinema, at the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre in Rothesay, it was only natural there should be plenty of razzmatazz around the film’s first screening on the island.
Merida herself was there - looking not unlike Discovery Centre manager Hazel Mulholland - while two burly bouncers, Colin Fulcher and Sam Lawrie, added a touch of Hollywood-style security to the red carpet outside the former Winter Garden building, which houses Bute’s tourist information centre.
The Brave soundtrack, composed by Patrick Doyle and also featuring two original songs performed by Julie Fowlis and one by Birdy and Mumford & Sons, boomed out over the adjacent Esplanade gardens and promenade, while indoors there were ‘mocktails’ (strictly non-alcoholic!) and games for the younger members of the audience.
Brave is at the Discovery Theatre until Thursday, August 16 - for more information on screening times call (01700) 502151 or see the ad in the August 3 edition of The Buteman.
