Poor weather at Port Golf Club’s JMF Tankard

Blustery and showery conditions greeted the competitors in the JMF Tankard kindly sponsored by the Fergus family and made play quite difficult resulting in a CSS of 68.

This was the 15th year of this competition and as is the norm the sponsorship was extremely generous and especially so in the ‘pavilion’ at the first/thirteenth tee where ample refreshment was on offer for all those who felt the need.

This was very appropriate as that particular ‘pavilion’ was erected in the centenary year and sponsored by the Fergus family in memory of father Jim and he would have enjoyed the banter along with the refreshments.

The winner on the day was a Fergus family friend Brian Robertson whose net 65, (82 - 17), was 5 shots ahead of Alistair Shaw in second place with a net 70 (80 - 10).  Third place, by virtue of the better inward half, went to sponsor Alistair Fergus with a net 71 (83 – 12).
