Bute’s first team enjoyed penalty shoot-out success for the second week in a row as they booked their place in the Balliemore Cup last eight.
Robert ‘Zeb’ Walker hit a hat-trick as Bute battled back from two goals down to draw 3-3 with island rivals Skye in a thrilling first round tie at the Meadows on Saturday.
And seven days on from their shoot-out success against Glenorchy, and after after extra time failed to produce any further goals, Bute’s players were on the spot once again, winning the penalty shoot-out 3-2 to book their berth in the last eight.
Chris Maclennan gave Skye the lead midway through the first half, and though Walker quickly levelled matters, Maclennan’s second just as quickly had the visitors back in front.
Jordan Murchison hit a third for Skye eleven minutes after half-time to leave Bute with a mountain to climb against a side who had strolled to victory in Rothesay in the Camanachd Cup last season.
But this season’s Bute team is a very different prospect to the one of 2014, and Walker dragged the men in red right back into the game with his second on 72 minutes before completing his hat-trick to level the tie ten minutes from the end.
