Nine members of the Bute County Cricket team attended a special coaching course on Sunday at Rothesay Academy put on by Cricket Scotland’s regional development manager, Tim Hart.

In his second visit to the island this year, Tim showed enthusiastic club members how to make cricket fun for youngsters who are being encouraged to join the Bute Junior Cricket Club as well as improving their skills set.

His message was simple - “if cricket is fun, they will come.” Towards the end of the full day course each of the team members was encouraged to run his own five minute coaching session.

Cricket Scotland is keen to encourage clubs to develop through youth programmes and become “hubs” of the community. “If you have a development plan it gives you a sense of direction,” said Tim. “We will back any club that wants to develop.”

Club chairman, David Mackay said: “It was really encouraging to see so many of the guys here on such a beautiful sunny day and it augurs well for the weekly sessions at the Academy where we will be introducing cricket to youngsters, some of whom will develop into the club’s players of tomorrow.”
