Bute Curling Club joined rinks from Dunoon Argyll, Dunoon Ladies, Glenorchy, Oban and Upper Cowal to compete for the Argyll Province’s Donald Clark Cup in Greenock.
Bute, represented by Donald Kinnear (skip), Colin Sharp, Bill Stein and Margaret MacLeod, were drawn against Richard Addis’s Upper Cowal rink in the first round of games, but despite playing against three-handed opponents Bute were unable to get a grip on the game and eventually lost by ten shots to three.
The islanders enjoyed better fortunes in the second round, opening up a 7-0 lead against Glenorchy and withstanding a late fightback by their opponetns to win the game 7-4.
The winners of the trophy, however, were Oban, thanks to a record of two wins on the day.
