Cricket: Stage set for Indian tourists’ Bute visit

Bute’s cricketers are gearing up for what promises to be one of the most memorable occasions in the island club’s recent history when the touring Indian MC Lions team visits the island on Tuesday.

The Mumbai club’s players, who are undertaking a six-match tour of Scotland, will arrive in Rothesay at 9.20am, when they will be welcomed to Bute by island councillor and Argyll and bute provost Len Scoullar, before playing a 40-overs-a-side match against a Bute Invitational XI at the Meadows cricket ground at 12 noon.

The touring party consists mostly of players who are members of the Garware Club House, one of the most prestigious club houses in Mumbai, whose president is a former president of the International Cricket Council.

The club regularly takes part in international cricket tours, with South Africa and New Zealand among the venues previously visited - and all are welcome to go along to the Meadows on Tuesday from midday to lend their support to the two teams!
