Captain Richard Harding won the ‘man of the match’ award as Bute County Cricket Club began their 2015 WDCU campaign with a four-wicket win away to Clydesdale Cricket Club’s Cavaliers on Saturday.
Jonathan Mann had the biggest impact with the ball after Bute lost the toss and were put in to the field, ripping through the Cavaliers’ middle order by clean bowling three of the hosts’ batsmen for just 27 runs off his five overs.
Alan Peacock, Jack Deans and Mark Crichton - the latter, along with his brother Guy, making a welcome return to the Bute ranks - also took wickets as the Cavaliers
finished their 40 overs on 194 for eight.
Harding and Mann got Bute’s innings off to a flying start with 51 runs off the first seven overs; Harding ran up 61 and Mark Crichton 45.
And Bute - who might have crumbled if faced with a similar total last year - kept their cool and edged over the line in the 33rd over for their first victory since 2013.
