After some sterling work from Alan Peacock and the council, Bute County Cricket Club were able to get their first home game of the season underway when they welcomed a strong team from Victoria to the Lade Park on Saturday.
The visiting team won the toss and elected to bat first on a wet wicket, and Bute got off to a dream start when Andy Fielding dismissed the Victoria opener second ball, with a sharp chance being taken at short leg by captain Tim Stobart.
Unfortunately, for the second week running, Bute failed to capitalize on an early wicket, this time seeing a second wicket partnership of 174 between Qayyum (90) and Hussain (95) in just 23 overs.
The breakthrough finally came when the impressive Australian Martin Crump took his first wicket on his debut for the club.
Crump also became the first Bute player to get his hands on a maiden this season, on his way to finishing with figures of three for 71.
