Bute’s first team missed out on top spot in the South Division One table on Saturday after being held to a surprise 3-3 draw away to bottom side Strachur.
After a goalless first half, Rhys Campbell gave the hosts the lead just two minutes into the second period - and a real shock looked on the cards when Angus Campbell doubled Strachur’s advantage.
But Bute refused to buckle, and Leighton Reid and David Whitelaw struck in the space of seven minutes midway through the half to level the game.
The comeback looked to have been completed when James Craig gave Bute a 3-2 lead on 77 minutes, but Strachur kept plugging away and the islanders were stunned when Duncan MacNicol found the net five minutes from time to end Bute’s run of six straight league wins.
The result means Bute are now tied with league leaders Glasgow Mid Argyll on 14 points, but the Yoker men have a slightly better goal difference - and now also have a game in hand on the island club.
