Bute Shinty Club’s first team are 90 minutes away from winning the South Division One championship this weekend - but coach Ted McDonald says his charges will approach their crucial last fixture in the same way as the 17 matches which have gone before.

Bute complete their league campaign against Oban Celtic at Mossfield Stadium on Saturday, November 7, after climbing to the top of the standings with a 6-2 win over Strachur last weekend.

That win lifted the islanders above long-time leaders Lochside Rovers, whose own final fixture, away to Glenorchy, is also due to be played this Saturday.

Bute lie in pole position thanks to a goal difference which is 15 better than Lochside - which means that if the islanders pick up full points in Oban on Saturday, only a mathematical miracle would prevent them getting their hands on the championship.

But McDonald said: “It’s just another game we’ve got to win.

“We’ll go out and do our best and play shinty the way we can, and hopefully it’ll be enough to win.”

This Saturday’s game gets under way at 1.30pm at Mossfield - if you’re unable to travel to Oban for the game, you can keep in touch with the latest score via The Buteman on Facebook and Twitter.
