Shinty: Bute aiming to end poor season on a high note

BUTE Shinty Club’s first team will be hoping to end a disappointing season on a high note this Saturday when they welcome Kinlochshiel to Rothesay for what will be both sides’ final match of the 2012 campaign.

Bute have failed to win a single match in the Orion Group Premiership this year, and their relegation was signed and sealed several weeks ago - in stark contrast to their opponents this Saturday, who have enjoyed a hugely successful first season in the top flight.

Kinlochshiel, like Bute, won promotion to the Premiership without dropping a point in 2012, but the Balmacara side’s 2012 campaign has been rather more enjoyable than that of the island club, with notable results including home and away wins over Kingussie - with 11 goals scored in the process - and a first ever appearance in the semi-finals of the Camanachd Cup.

This Saturday’s game will be Kinlochshiel’s first visit to Bute on league duty - though they have played in Rothesay before, having lost 5-1 to Strathglass in the 2009 Balliemore Cup final - and to mark the occasion, the two teams will compete for the Shaw Trophy.

Throw-up at the Meadows on Saturday is at 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, Bute’s second team travel to Winterton Park on Saturday to take on Inveraray in South Division Two, again with a 2.30pm throw-up.
