Shinty: away double for Bute next weekend

ButE’s shinty players to action next Saturday, August 26, after a one-week break for the Bute Highland Games - with Bute Shinty Club’s first and second teams facing testing away trips.

Bute’s senior side, whose relegation from the Orion Group Premiership was confirmed by a 5-1 home defeat to Inveraray in their last outing, will have local pride to play for as they make the short journey to Tighnabruaich for a Derby Day meeting with a Kyles Athletic team aiming for trophy success in the coming weeks on two fronts.

Kyles are currently tied with Newtonmore at the top of the Premiership table as the season enters its final few weeks, although the Badenoch men have a game in hand over their southern rivals; in the Camanachd Cup, Kyles will meet Inveraray in the final in Oban on September 15, the first all-southern Camanachd final since 1983, when the competition was played on an ‘open draw’ basis for the first time.

Bute’s second team, meanwhile, travel to Fife this Saturday to take on an Aberdour side who lost 3-0 in Rothesay earlier in the season but are a tough nut to crack on their own patch, with notable home results including a 6-1 thumping of Col Glen and, on Saturday, a 3-2 defeat of Ardnamurchan.
