Rugby: Helensburgh is first sevens date for Bute

Bute Rugby Club’s rebirth takes another step forward this weekend with the first of three sevens tournaments for the local side.

Bute will be one of 13 clubs from all over Scotland taking part in this Saturday’s Helensburgh Sevens at Ardencaple - the first competitive rugby for the Bute camp since the 2010-11 season - while the islanders have also confirmed their entry in the sevens competitions run by Oban Lorne RFC and Isle of Mull RFC later this month.

Bute’s adult training sessions on Tuesday nights are now regularly attracting 20 players, and a number of full 15-a-side fixtures have been organised for July and August, while a tag rugby festival for P5 age group players will be held at Rothesay Joint Campus on May 16 - and there are plans to start a brand new mini rugby section in September.
