Rugby: First adult ‘tag’ session to be held in Rothesay

Plans to bring rugby back to Bute will step up a gear later this month with the first in a new series of adult ‘tag rugby’ sessions in Rothesay.

The first session of the non-contact version of the sport will take place on Tuesday, March 26 from 6-7pm at the Meadows, near Rothesay Leisure Centre.

While the session is only open to players aged over 16, the organisers are keen to encourage both men and women to come down and see what the game is all abouw.

Sam Lawrie from Bute Rugby Club said: “It’s completely non contact and will be a very sociable session and a great way to keep fit.

“We would particularly like to welcome new players, including ladies, and anyone who has never played rugby before.

“Best of all, it’s completely free!”

Tag rugby sessions were introduced at all Bute’s primary schools in February, and after-school coaching sessions have been introduced at Rothesay Academy.
