Innellan Bowling and Tennis Club held its Ladies’ Day on Sunday, September 8, sponsored once again by McLay Glass and Glazing, and were joined by ladies from Rothesay for the annual event.

They were joined by ladies from Colintraive and local Cowal Clubs, and found themselves playing in good conditions with the weather being favourable for bowls. A bit windy, one shower early afternoon and sunshine for the final, what more could we ask for! Even the midges stayed away.

The two section winning triples were: Joyce Holgate (Bogleha), Nan Cook (Colintraive) and skip Dorothy McGrouther (Innellan); and Isabel MacGillivray (Innellan), Mavis Knowles (Rothesay) and skip Elizabeth Smith (Dunoon Argyll).

The runners up from each section were Ann McDonald (Bogleha), Sam Potts (Innellan) and skip June MacIver (Colintraive), and June Williams (Rothesay), Jean Robinson (Dunoon Argyll) and skip Myra Campbell (Innellan).

Elizabeth’s triple won through to the final following a close game against June’s triple while Dorothy’s triple lost out to Myra’s triple who took an early lead and managed to take the game after 6 ends played.

The final was cut to 6 ends and was close to start with. Both skips went off the boil in one end with each playing 3 short bowls. Luckily they did pick up and didn’t leave all the work to their leads & seconds. Myra’s triple managed to keep the lead and June, Jean and myself picked up the trophy for 2013. Congratulations to them/us and to Isabel, Mavis & Elizabeth as the very worthy runners up.

A huge thanks to all the ladies who took part and to Fergie for catering, to Archie for his format, to Curly for the bar and to Davy, David, Ian, Archie and Curly for looking after the ladies all day. Nothing was too much bother for them. Thanks also to Jean George for the lovely hand made cards she gifted to each lady, to everyone for raffle prizes and to Derek for having the green in tip top condition.

And last but definitely not least to Jake and Helena McLay for their continued sponsorship of this tournament. Thank you from IBTC.

Vice President Eileen presented the prizes and wished everyone a safe journey home.
