Mike McHardy was the manager of the Scotland team which triumphed at the European Blackball Association’s annual champion ship s held in the Spa building, Bridlington earlier this month.
Mike was delighted to see his side crowned the ‘B’ Team champions for 2016. Three of his team also won the Masters speed pool event held early in the week. To cap a fabulous month, Mike also reached the quarter finals of the individual evcent only to lose 5-4 to the eventual winner John Hardy from Wales.
A total of 13 nations competed this year during the adult week in the men’s, women’s, seniors who are over 40’s and also the masters teams solely for over 50 year old players. Mike’s section had nine teams, two from Scotland, England, Wales and Southern Ireland and one from Northern Ireland.
Each of the group stage matches were played out over 25 frames with the top four teams going into the knockout semi and final matches. Mike’s team consisted of John Watson from Bathgate, Mark Donnan (Dumfries), Michael Watson (Alva), Ally Menzies (Perth) and George Fagan (Bellshill) plus Mike’s wife, Carol, who was the online score keeper.
By the end of the championships the Scottish contingent had racked up wins for the Masters A and B teams the Ladies A team and Liam Dunster won the men’s singles.
