Bute Shinty Club’s first team maintained their promotion push with a comfortable victory over Kilmory at the Meadows on Saturday.
Seven days on from a 5-0 away win against the same team, Bute wasted no time in seizing the upper hand and were two goals up with less than a quarter of the game played, thanks to David Whitelaw and Gordon McMillan.
But those goals would be all Bute would have to show for their efforts at the end of a first half in which their play at times tended towards the scrappy and in which the hosts’ frustration at not turning their almost total dominance into a bigger lead was increasingly clear.
The islanders, however, were much more fluent after the interval; Robert Walker added a third six minutes into the second half - on his first appearance after a lengthy injury lay-off - and went on to notch his second and Bute’s fourth before James Craig put the icing on the cake in a second half which the hosts dominated just as comprehensively as the first.
