Bute Shinty Club’s second team got their South Division Two campaign off to the perfect start with a comprehensive home win on the first day of the 2016 season on Saturday.
Willie Lawrence scrambled home an overdue opening goal midway through the first half, and Craig Fisher doubled the hosts’ advantage with a sweet strike just before the break.
Neil McKirdy put Bute out of sight of their below-strength visitors less than 60 seconds after the restart, before adding his second to complete the scoring ten minutes from the end.
A good start to the new shinty season for Bute on Saturday was completed by a hard-earned point for the island club’s first team, who overcame the absence of several regular faces to draw 0-0 away to an Inveraray side playing their first league match outside the sport’s top flight since 2001.
