Lewis Montgomery’s early hat-trick for Inveraray’s second team sent their Bute counterparts tumbling out of the Bullough Cup in the first round of the competition on Saturday.
Sluggish early defending allowed Montgomery to score in the first, fourth and 11th minutes, leaving the islanders with a mountain to climb - but apart from those first 11 minutes, Bute actually competed well throughout against an Inveraray side who had taken a point from Bute’s first team in a South Division One fixture in Rothesay just three weeks previously.
Joe Livingstone pulled one back six minutes before the break to give Bute a glimmer of hope, but Fraser Watt added a fourth for the visitors three minutes into the second half.
