Curling: Weather thwarts Bute’s bid for Province success

BAD weather thwarted Bute Curling Club’s bid for success in the latest Argyll Province game this week.

A strong rink of Bute curlers assembled at the pier, ready to do battle at the Waterfront, but as the weather blew up and threatened to disrupt the ferry service, the intrepid but frustrated Bute players were forced to head back home.

Calmer weather the following day allowed Ron Forrester (skip), Douglas Macdonald, John Middleton and Muiriel Duncan to make the trip to Greenock to play a league game against Gourock; a close game saw seven of the eight ends won by single shots, with Gourock taking two at the sixth end on their way to a 6-3 victory.
