Curling: new season under way for Bute

Bute Curling Club’s new season got under way with a 6-3 defeat to Troon in the opening fixture of the 2012-13 Ayr Day League.

Bute’s rink of Donald Kinnear, Jan Eccles, Andy Eccles and skip Beck Reid began well, taking the first end by one shot, but Troon soon got into their rhythm and took the next three ends - and though Bute battled back to level the score at 3-3, Troon scored three shots in the final two ends to secure victory.

The first club game of the season, for the Millbank Trophy, was won by Beck Reid, Margaret MacLeod and skip (and club president) Ron Forrester, who secured the trophy thanks to a greater number of shots ahead of June McKenzie, Colin Sharp and skip Donald Kinnear.
