Bute Curling Club registered their first victory of the season in the Greenock Day League with a 9-8 defeat of Port Glasgow this week.

Bute, represented by Colin Sharp (skip), Donnie MacLeod, Donald Kinnear and Bill Stein, looked strong on paper and took that status on to the ice, winning the first three ends against a Port Glasgow rink skipped by D. Cunningham with two, two and then four shots.

The Port team fought back with four shots over the next two ends, and though a single shot at the sixth end extended Bute’s lead to 9-4, Port Glasgow finished strongly with three shots at the seventh end and one at the eighth, before the bell sounded for time up and confirmed victory for a mightily relieved Bute side.
