Bute Curling Club’s hopes of winning the Inveraray Shield in the latest Argyll Province game of the season were thwarted by defeat to Glen Orchy at the Waterfront in Greenock.

The Bute rink looked strong on paper, with Ron Forrester (skip), Donald Kinnear, Alec Robertson and Peter Martin representing the local club - and though Bute led 4-2 after three ends, and were still in front with two ends remaining, Glen Orchy finished strongly to win 8-5.

The trophy, however, was won by Benmore and Kilmun with a winning total of 15 shots.

The following day, Beck Reid (skip), Douglas Macdonald and Helen Way won the club competition for the Bank of Scotland Cup, winning both their games in a round-robin contest against Donnie MacLeod (skip), Ron Forrester, Margaret MacLeod and Hugh Yeamans and Donald Kinnear (skip), Colin Sharp and Nancy Kinnear.

More details on both competitions in this week’s issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, December 19.
