Ron Forrester and Bill Stein won Bute Curling Club’s Cowan Pairs trophy after a closely-fought battle at the Waterfront in Greenock this week.

Twelve curlers took part in the competition, with Ron and Bill edging out Donald Kinnear and Margaret MacLeod in the final - but only after the number of ends won was taken into account, the two pairs having finished level at four shots apiece.

The other pairs competing on the day were Andy Eccles and Nancy Kinnear, Donnie MacLeod and Jan Eccles, Colin Sharp and Peter Martin, and Alec Robertson and Duncan McAlister.
