ROTHESAY plays host to its second major shinty cup final in three years this Saturday when the Bullough Cup final takes place at the Meadows.
The selection of Bute as the final venue enhances the growing reputation of the facilities and hospitality on offer to visiting teams on the island, which was chosen to host the 2009 Balliemore Cup final between Strathglass and Kinlochshiel.
Competing in the Bullough Cup final this year are Lochside Rovers, the reserve team of Oban Camanachd, and Aberdour, who are playing in the final for the first time.
Aberdour defeated both of last year’s finalists, with holders Glasgow Mid Argyll seen off on penalties in the first round and Kyles Athletic defeated 4-2 in the last eight; their place in the final was secured with another dramatic shoot-out win after a 1-1 draw with Col Glen in the semi-final.
Lochside, meanwhile, booked their place with a 4-3 semi-final win over Tayforth, having defeated Strachur and Kilmory in the earlier rounds.
Saturday’s final, which will be refereed by Robert Baxter, gets under way at 2.30pm, and admission is £5.
Elsewhere this Saturday Bute Shinty Club’s senior team, who clinched the South Division One championship and promotion to the Premier League last weekend, continue their quest to go through the entire league season without dropping a point when they travel to Taynuilt.
