STAFF from Scottish Water and George Leslie took a brief break from their work connecting Ardbeg and Port Bannatyne to the Rothesay sewerage network this week when they faced up against each other in a petanque challenge match.

The event was organised and overseen by the Port Bannatyne Petanque Club, whose members were on hand to provide tuition to the novice players from the two companies – as well as drinks and nibbles to keep out the cold on a decidedly dreich evening.

The George Leslie staff present made a presentation of two brand new sets of boules to the club, while both companies donated umbrellas for those rare occasions in the Port when the sun opts not to shine.

The match was played in the friendly spirit for which petanque is renowned and which has epitomised both companies’ relations with the communities where the work has been taking place over the last few months.
