Rothesay Bowling Club’s annual friendly meeting with Cardonald BC from Glasgow was played at the Ballochgoy green on Saturday.
Sadly this year’s match had a touch of sadness along with the camaraderie, as the organiser of this friendly match, Pat Cargill, passed away suddenly earlier this year after arranging this weekend trip.
A minute’s silence was observed and a sip of Old Pulteney, Pat’s favourite tipple, taken in his memory before the game.
The scores were almost unimportant, but there has to be a winner, and on Saturday it was Rothesay - although there was a firm promise from the visitors that this would not be the case when the clubs meet again at Cardonald in a return match on September 12.
