The Isle of Bute Carpet Bowling Association’s annual open tournament at Rothesay Pavilion reaches its conclusion with five finals over two nights on Thursday and Friday.

Five players were still in with a chance of capturing two titles as this article was published, with four sets of semi-finals still to be played.

The only competition in which the final line-up has already been decided is the mixed pairs section, in which Joan Reynolds and son George will take on the husband-and-wife pairing of Cathy and David McMurchie.

Three of those four finalists are also in with a shout of picking up other trophies - the semi-final line-up for the ladies’ and gents’ singles and pairs is as follows.

Ladies’ singles: Kath Bell v Renee Speirs, Violet Westland v Marion Murdoch.

Ladies’ pairs: Christine McDade and Joan Reynolds v Violet Westland and Renee Speirs, Cathy McMurchie and Agness Connell v Rosemary Bowie and Margaret McMillan.

Gents’ singles: George Reynolds v Craig Charker, John Gilchrist v Dino Zavaroni.

Gents’ pairs: Alan Ewing and Gordon Shaw v Fred Baker and Ronnie McCrae, Jim Milliken and John Gilchrist v Sam Bolton and Haig Reynolds.

* The final two sessions of this year’s tournament take place at Rothesay Pavilion from 6.30pm on both Thursday (tonight) and Friday; the presentation of the IOBCBA’s open tournament and regular season prizes takes place after the conclusion of Friday’s action.
