Shinty’s governing body, the Camanachd Association, has appealed for more volunteers - and particularly former players - to turn their hand to refereeing in 2016.
New recruits will go through a short training programme at introductory (Grade 3) level, and on completion will be allocated fixtures in North and South Division Two when the new season begins in March.
Torquil Macleod, the Camanachd Association’s chief operating officer, said: “Referees provide a vital service to the sport and refereeing offers a great opportunity to maintain an active involvement in the game.
“Refereeing requires skill and is both physically and mentally challenging. Games are allocated according to your availability, e.g. locally and/or only one or two a month, and as well as relevant kit and equipment, Referees also receive reimbursement for travel expenses and a match fee.”
Training courses will be held across the country in mid-January: to find out more contact the Camanachd Association office on 01463 715931 or email email@example.com.
