ROBERT McKIRDY said cheers as he lifted the McAlister Tankard last Saturday after scoring a sparkling gross 66 for a comfortable win in the annual bogey competition at Kingarth.
The six-handicapper played his best golf of the season to finish eight up -- three clear of club champion Jim McKirdy who was in second place on five up.
Birdies at the seventh, ninth, 14th and 18th paved the way to victory for Robert, on a day when he dropped only two shots to par.
Namesake Jim (8) also did well with birdies at the seventh and ninth in a solid round of 71.
Cammy Middleton (10) was in third place with a score of three up, one clear of Peter Martin (23), while Andy Docherty (13) and Arthur Hunter (7) were next with both on one up.
* The re-arranged Captain’s Day event takes place tomorrow (Saturday) when Frazer Robinson will play host at this year’s competition, which will take the form of a greensomes tournament.
A draw for partners will be held at the course at 8.15am prior to the tee-off, and prizes will be presented in the clubhouse at the close of play.
