Bute Golf Club’s handicap convener, Leighton Thomas, posted the lowest net score of the day in the club’s September medal competition at Kingarth.
Thomas’s net 64, enough to give him a one-shot win in the first class section of the competition, was achieved off a handicap of 11, and his round of 75 shots featured two very steady nine holes of 38 and 37.
Robert McKirdy, who posted the best scratch score of the day in the form of a round of 71, was the first class runner-up with a net 65. Third place in the first class section went to John McBride, who returned a net 66.
John Kernaghan led the way in the second division with a net 66 (79-13), closing with six successive par-fours to finish well clear of Stuart Wilson’s 71 (86-15), with Peter Martin third on 72 (96-24).
