SIX threes in a superb round of 72 paved the way to victory for Andy Docherty and Stevie Neilson in the greensomes competition on Captain’s Day at Kingarth last Saturday.

The strong duo, playing off a combined handicap of 16, finished with a net score 56 - four shots clear of their nearest challengers. After an outward half of 38, which included a birdie three at the second, they made a stunning start to the back nine with birdies at the tenth and 11th holes on their way to an inward score of level-par 34.

The performance earned them the main prize of a pair of engraved goblets, gifted by club captain Frazer Robinson. The runners-up were Graham McArthur and Sandy Renfrew (11.5) who also scored gross 72 for net 60.5.
