Golf: our weekly round-up from Bute’s three clubs

A FOURTH weekly win in succession has made George Reynolds and Alan Smith clear favourites to capture the Bike Shed Winter League title at Rothesay Golf Club.

With just four weeks of the competition remaining, the pair topped the standings on Sunday with a score of 45 stableford points to move to within one point of overall leaders Craig Charker and Henry Tait.

Andy Docherty was the runaway winner of the latest round of Bute Golf Club’s Winter League at Kingarth on Saturday; his winning score of 44 points saw him finish six clear of the chasing pack, though holder Leighton Thomas retains the overall lead on 313 points.

Sadly, bad weather left Port Bannatyne’s golfers idle at the weekend; the heavy rain of Friday left the first three greens waterlogged, and a heavy frost in the early hours of Sunday turned those puddles into skating rinks more suited to triple Salchows than long range putts.
