NEW names will be on the Robertson (first class) and Emslie (second class) medals after Bute Golf Club’s annual medal finals at Kingarth.
Both medals were donated by and named after prominent Scottish legal figures, the Lord Robertson medal being in the club since the early years of the 20th century, and the Lord Emslie medal more recently named after the then honorary president, the father of the present patron of the club, Lord Kingarth.
On a calm but humid morning at Kingarth, Malcolm Calder (12) won the Robertson Medal with a net score of 62 (74-12), playing very steady golf with two halves of 37 in a round which featured 13 pars.
Cammy Middleton was second on 63 (73-10), despite having birdies at the same hole - the fifth/14th - both times round. In third place in the first division was John Kernaghan with 63 (76-12). Peter Martin (23) was the winner of the Emslie Medal with a score of 62 (85-23), one ahead of Richie Smith (81-18); Peter’s round included a birdie three at the first and three double bogeys on the second nine, though the latter was offset by a birdie at the 14th, secured by a long putt across the always tricky green.
